Today - Update from a friend

Hi, friends of Lindsey & Jason,

Mallory, a friend of the Edwards family, here. Lindsey has asked me to write an update as they are currently pretty overwhelmed but want you to know what’s going on.

I must say, to write about what’s going on with Lindsey medically is rather intimidating as Jason is more articulate about these matters than I could ever be… So, here’s a layperson’s account of Lindsey’s journey this week.

Lindsey went in for a scan on Tuesday. Doctors discovered a right pleural effusion, like what she had on her heart, but around her lower right lung. This isn’t as urgent medically to deal with but can be a sign of metastatic disease or progression.

Mercifully, Lindsey got a last minute appointment (this morning! for the procedure to be at 11am!) to drain the fluid from this spot. They drained 1300mL of fluid. She is now back at home, resting. Her recovery is taking it easy for now. We’ve re-upped their meal plan for the next few weeks to relieve some stress and create some margin for Jason and Lindsey, if you’re interested in supporting them in that way. If you’re out of town and want to send a gift card (list of restaurants they enjoy is on the support page), you can email them to Lindsey at edwardslinds@gmail.com.

When I saw Lindsey this morning, she shared that she felt encouraged to have something done while they wait to meet with her oncologist next week. As shown by her scan, she also has some enlarged nodes in her mid-lung and around her heart as well as a few new small nodules in her left lung, as called by the radiologist. As Jason texted me: “Each of these things on their own could be explained away, in a sense, but the combination of these so-called new items is concerning.”

There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding Jason and Lindsey right now. They have asked that you pray for them. Pray that they would know that God is near to them. That he tenderly loves and cares for them. That he weeps with them.

The Edwardses have also asked that you refrain from asking them questions, but they welcome and desire to hear encouragements, prayers, & scripture passages. Just know that they most likely will not have the capacity to reply.
